Tumaini 2010Tumaini 2010 seeks to expose University of Guelph students to Kenyan culture and offer them an opportunity to partner with the community of Butula in locally driven solidarity work. This program is equally intent on exploring questions of faith and culture, growing in our understanding of how the Christian church in Kenya has interacted with culture, how it is engaging that culture today, and what hopes it holds for the future. Guelph Campus Ministry is working in partnership with Children of Bukati. This initiative, started by Dr. Cate Dewey at the University of Guelph, is an attempt to work in solidarity with the community of Butula and the Bukati Elementary School, offering support and educational opportunities for over 400 AIDS orphans in the community. Tumaini 2010 is not a "missions" trip; it is a global learning opportunity and a partnership endeavour. It is open to all currently enrolled, fulltime students at the University of Guelph and is built upon the values of mutual respect and shared understanding.
